Obituary:
Robert Junior Harris, November 16, 1941 - February 27, 2010, resident of Belleville, Michigan, after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away peacefully at his home. He was the son of three children born to the late Charles and Doretha Hopkins, and was raised in Bessemer, Alabama. Detroit Unity Temple served as his spiritual home throughout his adulthood, and it was also the place where he met his beloved wife of 25 years, Linda. Robert graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, Alabama and he held an Associates Degree from Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Michigan. During his life, Robert served in the United States Air Force. He moved to Michigan where he worked as a Machinist for Detroit Diesel, accumulating 34 years of service. Robert loved watching movies, sports, laughing, being with his family, having fun with friends and keeping his home in immaculate condition. Robert touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, gentle nature and trademark sense of humor he shared all the way to the end. Robert served God first, his family and his local community. Robert believed that you had to take an active part in helping and developing young men, which led him service as a Boy Scout Leader and mentor to young boys and men. Everyone who came in contact with him loved him and his uplifting spirit. His family and friends loved him because he had a heart of gold; an example of Good Stewardship always willing to help others. He was a warrior; who battled cancer since 1998, and was facing his imminent death, when he gave his wife Linda the gift of life on her birthday and presented her with a beautiful bouquet of red roses to show his love for her. Robert is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Harris; sons, Kenneth, Marcus and Roshaun Harris; grandson, Kenneth Stepney; sister, Esther Blevins; sister, Dorothy Ross; sister-in-law, Jocelyn Rickard; aunt, Essie Williams; uncle, James Harris, Sr.; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family, friends and relatives.
